How to Become a More Confident and Skilled Diver

Where Experience Meets Passion Beneath the Waves

If you’ve already earned your Open Water Diver certification and are eager to explore deeper — both literally and figuratively, then the advanced diving training is your next step toward becoming a confident, skilled, and adventurous diver.

Despite what the name might suggest, you don’t need to be “advanced” to join. This program from PADI is designed for certified divers who want to expand their experience, build confidence underwater, and safely explore new diving environments under professional supervision.

What Is the Skill Progression Program ?

The course is all about expanding your skills and exploring new dive adventures. It builds directly on what you learned in your Open Water course, helping you grow through experience while improving your technique, control, and awareness underwater.

Over the course of five Adventure Dives, you’ll be introduced to different types of diving, including:

  • Deep diving (typically between 18–30 meters / 60–100 feet)
  • Underwater navigation using a compass
  • Plus, three additional adventure dives of your choice, such as:
  • Wreck diving
  • Underwater photography
  • Peak performance buoyancy
  • Night diving

Each adventure dive gives you a taste of what specialized diving feels like and each one counts as credit toward the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver course.

Learning to Dive Deeper and Smarter

To enroll in the course, you must:

Be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver (or have an equivalent certification from another recognized agency like SSI).

Be at least 12 years old (for Junior AOWD).

During the course, you’ll dive to a maximum depth of 30 meters (100 feet), gaining practical experience in deeper diving environments and learning how to manage the effects of pressure, air consumption, and buoyancy changes.

What specific skills are taught in the course?

The PADI Open Water skills list varies depending on your chosen dives, but some of the key lessons include:

  • Practical aspects and safety procedures for deep diving.
  • The physiological effects of diving deeper.
  • Advanced navigation techniques using kick-cycles, visual references, and timing.
  • How to maximize your use of a dive computer and electronic dive planner.
  • Enhanced buoyancy control for more efficient and relaxed diving.

This course is hands-on, engaging, and highly customizable, allowing you to focus on the types of diving that excite you most.

Advanced Diving Certificate Cost

The cost can vary depending on location, dive center, and whether you need additional gear or eLearning materials.

Typically, confidence-building course is a two-day program designed to enhance your diving skills and confidence under the guidance of experienced instructors.

The online price is €187 (standard price €220), with an additional €100 for course materials and certification.

The package includes five dives and professional dive instruction, providing a comprehensive learning experience.

Both PADI and SSI certifications offer similar goals: to enhance your diving ability and expand your experience.

However, there are slight differences in structure and requirements:

PADI: Focuses on completing five adventure dives with specific core modules (Deep and Navigation).

SSI: Requires completing four specialty courses and 24 logged dives to earn the certification.

Both are internationally recognized, so your choice depends on your learning style, local dive center, and instructor recommendation.

Why Take The Advanced Diver Development Course?

  • Gain confidence and learn to handle new underwater challenges.
  • Dive deeper up to 30 meters (100 feet) with the PADI program.
  • Explore iconic dive sites such as wrecks, walls, canyons, and night reefs.
  • Develop specialized skills that make you a more capable and aware diver.
  • Earn credits toward future specialty certifications.
